The availability of safe, quality, and affordable housing in a community is crucial to economic and business development efforts.
The Governor's House Program is an affordable housing option for income qualified homebuyers that want to purchase or build a new home. The South Eastern Council of Governments serves as the Governor's House Sales Representative for homebuyers in Brookings, Clay, Kingsbury, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Turner, and Union Counties.
In order to begin addressing the affordable housing needs for the region, the South Eastern Development Foundation partnered with USDA Rural Development and its 502 Home Loan Partnership Program to provide loans to low income families. The goal of this program is to provide financing at reasonable rates and terms to families that want to purchase or construct a home in a rural area.
On a project-by-project basis, SECOG staff is also available to provide technical assistance to its membership regarding housing needs assessments and referrals to other technical and financial assistance providers.
